367 — ‘Abdullāh narrated to us: Abū Ja‘far Muhammad ibn al-Sabbāh al-Dūlābī narrated to us: Ismā‘īl ibn Zakariyyā narrated to us, from ‘Āsim al-Ahwal, from Abū ‘Uthmān, who said:
I heard Ibn ‘Umar express anger when it was said that he had emigrated before ‘Umar. He said: “‘Umar and I came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in Medina and found him taking his midday nap, so we returned to our lodging. ‘Umar then sent me, saying, ‘Go and see whether he has woken up.’ I went to him, entered his presence, and pledged allegiance to him. Then I went back to ‘Umar and told him that he had woken up. We set off to see him, and ‘Umar hurried along until he entered his presence. He pledged allegiance to him, and then I pledged allegiance to him.”
Thus Ibn ‘Umar would become angry when it was said that he had emigrated before his father.
