366 — ‘Abd Allāh narrated to us: Muhammad ibn ‘Abbād al-Makkī narrated to us: ‘Abd Allāh ibn Mu‘ādh narrated to us, from Ma‘mar, from al-Zuhrī, from Abū Umāma ibn Sahl ibn Hunayf, from one of the Prophet’s Companions, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“While asleep, I saw people being presented before me wearing shirts, some reaching their chests and others extending further. ‘Umar was presented before me wearing a shirt so long that he was dragging it.”
They asked, “How did you interpret that, O Messenger of Allah?” He replied, “Religion.”
٣٦٦ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ قثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ الْمَكِّيُّ قثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ، عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ: «بَيْنَا أَنَا نَائِمٌ رَأَيْتُ النَّاسَ يُعْرَضُونَ عَلَيَّ وَعَلَيْهِمُ الْقُمُصُ، مِنْهَا مَا يَبْلُغُ الثَّدْيَ، وَمِنْهَا مَا يَبْلُغُ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ، وَعُرِضَ عَلَيَّ عُمَرُ وَعَلَيْهِ قَمِيصٌ يَجُرُّهُ» ، قَالُوا: فَمَا أَوَّلْتَ ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ: «الدِّينُ» .
