38 - ‘Abd Allāh narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me, saying: Wakī‘ narrated to us, saying: Isrā’īl narrated to us, from Abū Ishāq, from al-‘Ayrāz ibn Hurayth, from al-Nu‘mān ibn Bashīr, who said:
Abū Bakr came seeking permission to enter upon the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and heard ‘Ā’isha raising her voice at the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He was granted permission and entered, saying, “O daughter of Umm Rūmān!” He reached for her and said, “Do you raise your voice at the Messenger of Allah?” The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, stepped between him and her. When Abū Bakr left, the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, began saying to her, seeking to soothe her, “Do you not see that I stepped between the man and you?”
Abū ‘Abd al-Rahmān said: I think he said: Then Abū Bakr came again and sought permission to enter, and found him laughing with her. He was granted permission and entered. Abū Bakr said, “O Messenger of Allah, let me share in your peace, just as you both let me share in your war.”
