344 — ‘Abd Allāh narrated to us: Ismā‘īl Abū Ma‘mar narrated to me: I heard Sufyān say:
“A man said to ‘Alī: ‘If you wish to be like ‘Umar, mend your sandals, tuck up your garment, and eat less than your fill.’”
٣٤٤ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي إِسْمَاعِيلُ أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ سُفْيَانَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَجُلٌ لِعَلِيٍّ إِنْ أَرَدْتَ أَنْ تَكُونَ مِثْلَ عُمَرَ فَاخْصِفْ نَعْلَكَ، وَشَمِّرْ ثَوْبَكَ، وَكُلْ دُونَ الشِّبَعِ.
