343 — ‘Abd Allāh narrated to us: Ismā‘īl Abū Ma‘mar narrated to us: Abū Mu‘āwiyah narrated to us, from Abū Bakr al-Hudhalī, from Muhammad ibn Sīrīn, from ‘Ubaydah, who said:
“‘Alī learned that a man was disparaging Abū Bakr and ‘Umar. The man was brought before him, and ‘Alī began alluding to the two of them. The man caught on and held his tongue. ‘Alī then said to him: ‘Had you admitted to what I was told about you, I would have cut off the part of you with the most hair.’”
