326 — ‘Abd Allāh narrated to us: Abū Dāwūd Sulaymān ibn Dāwūd al-Tayālisī narrated to me: Ibrāhīm ibn Sa‘d narrated to us, from Sālih ibn Kaysān: Ibn Shihāb narrated to us, from ‘Abd al-Hamīd ibn ‘Abd al-Rahmān, from Muhammad ibn Sa‘d, from his father, who said:

‘Umar sought permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while some young women were with him, their voices raised above his. He granted him permission, and they hurried away. ‘Umar entered while the Messenger of Allah was laughing and said, “May Allah keep you smiling, O Messenger of Allah! May my father and mother be your ransom.”

He said, “I was amused by the young women who were with me: as soon as they heard you approaching, they hurried away.”

‘Umar turned towards them and said, “You enemies of your own selves! By Allah, you ought to be more in awe of the Messenger of Allah than of me!”

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Leave them be, leave them alone, ‘Umar. By Allah, whenever Satan encounters you on a path, he takes a path other than yours.”
