Fadail al-Sahabah li-Ahmad ibn HanbalAhmad Ibn Hanbal

321 — ‘Abd Allāh narrated to us: My father narrated to me: Muhammad ibn Bishr narrated to us: ‘Ubayd Allāh narrated to us, saying: Abū Bakr ibn Sālim ibn ‘Abd Allāh narrated to me, from ‘Abd Allāh ibn ‘Umar, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

“I was shown in a dream that I was drawing water from a well with a bucket on a pulley. Abū Bakr came and drew one or two bucketfuls, but his drawing was weak—may Allah forgive him. Then ‘Umar ibn al-Khattāb came and drew water, and the bucket became a large bucket. I had never seen any man of exceptional ability draw water as he did. He continued until he had quenched the people’s thirst and they settled their camels at the watering place.”
