279 - ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me: ʿAlī ibn ʿĀsim narrated to us, saying: Husayn narrated to us. Through another chain, my father said: Muʿāwiyah ibn ʿAmr narrated to us, saying: Zāʾidah narrated to us, saying: Husayn ibn ʿAbd al-Rahmān narrated to us, from Hilāl ibn Yasāf, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Zālim, who said:
A certain man appointed speakers to revile ʿAlī while I was beside Saʿīd ibn Zayd. Saʿīd became angry and said, “Do you not see this man, who wrongs himself by ordering that a man of Paradise be cursed? I bear witness that the nine are in Paradise, and were I to bear witness concerning the tenth, I would not be sinning.”
I asked, “How is that?” He replied: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Stand firm, Hirāʾ, for there is none upon you but a prophet, a man of truth, or a martyr.”
I asked, “Who were they?” He replied, “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, ʿUthmān, ʿAlī, Talhah, al-Zubayr, ʿAbd al-Rahmān ibn ʿAwf, and Saʿd ibn Mālik.” Then he fell silent. I asked, “Who is the tenth?” He replied, “I am.”
