254 – ‘Abd Allāh narrated to us, saying: Yūsuf ibn Ya‘qūb Abū Ya‘qūb al-Saffār, a client of Banū Umayyah, narrated to me, saying: ‘Ubayd ibn Sa‘īd al-Qurashī, the brother of Yahyā ibn Sa‘īd, narrated to us, saying: Sufyān narrated to us, from Mansūr, from Hilāl ibn Yasāf, from so-and-so ibn Hayyān, from ‘Abd Allāh ibn Zālim, from Sa‘īd ibn Zayd ibn ‘Amr ibn Nufayl, who then began to relate, saying:
Hirā’ shook, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Be still, Hirā’! Upon you are none but a prophet, or a man of utmost truthfulness, or a martyr.”
Upon it were the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Abū Bakr, ‘Umar, ‘Uthmān, ‘Alī, Talhah, al-Zubayr, ‘Abd al-Rahmān ibn ‘Awf, and Sa‘d. He said, “If I wished to tell you who the tenth was, I would”—meaning himself.
The report of ‘Ubayd ibn Sa‘īd is more complete and better.
