244 – ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me, saying: Abū Nuʿaym narrated to us, saying: Sufyān narrated to us, from al-Qāsim ibn Kathīr, Abū Hāshim, a dealer in fine cloth, from Qays al-Khārifī, who said:

I heard ʿAlī say from this pulpit: “The Messenger of Allah came first, Abū Bakr came second, and ʿUmar came third. Then turmoil struck us—or befell us—and what Allah willed came to pass.”
