239 – ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Mukharrimī narrated to me, saying: Abū Dāwūd narrated to us, saying: al-Hakam ibn ʿAtiyya narrated to us, from Thābit, from Anas—meaning Ibn Mālik—who said:

“The Prophet ﷺ would come out while the Emigrants and the Helpers were sitting with their knees drawn up. None of them would raise his head from his knees except Abū Bakr and ʿUmar. He would smile at them both, and they would smile at him.”
