233 – ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me, saying: Abū Ahmad al-Zubayrī narrated to us, saying: Sufyān narrated to us, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muhammad ibn ʿAqīl, from Jābir—meaning Ibn ʿAbd Allāh—who said:
We were with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, at the home of a woman of the Ansār who had prepared food for us. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “A man who is among the people of Paradise will come in to you.” Abū Bakr entered, and we congratulated him. Then he said, “A man who is among the people of Paradise will come in to you.” ʿUmar entered, and we congratulated him. Then he said, “A man who is among the people of Paradise will come in to you.” I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, put his head beneath the young date palm and say, “O Allah, if You will, make him ʿAlī.” Then ʿAlī entered, and we congratulated him.
