228 – ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us, saying: Abū Maʿmar narrated to me, saying: Abū Dāwūd al-Hafarī narrated to us, from Badr ibn ʿUthmān, from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Marwān, who said: Abū ʿĀʾishah, who was a truthful man, narrated to me, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar, who said:

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us and said, “Just now I saw what seemed to be keys and scales being brought to me. The keys were indeed keys, and the scales were like these scales of yours. I saw myself being placed in one pan of the scales and my nation in the other, and I outweighed them. Then Abū Bakr was placed in the scales, and my nation was placed opposite him, and he outweighed them. Then ʿUmar was placed in the scales, and my nation was placed opposite him, and the scales tipped as they were weighed. Then ʿUthmān was placed in the scales, and my nation was placed opposite him, and the scales tipped. Then the scales were lifted away.”
