217 – ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us, saying: Abū Maʿmar Ismāʿīl narrated to me, saying: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, from ʿAbd al-Wāhid ibn Abī ʿAwn and ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿUmar, from al-Qāsim, from ʿĀʾishah, who said:

“The Prophet ﷺ passed away and the Arabs apostatized. Such a calamity befell my father that, had it befallen firmly rooted mountains, it would have shattered them. The Arabs apostatized, and hypocrisy reared its head in Medina. By Allah, whenever people differed over any point, my father hastened to take his share in the matter and bear its burden.”
