205 - ‘Abdullāh narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me, saying: Mu’ammal narrated to us, saying: Nāfi‘ ibn ‘Umar narrated to us, saying: Ibn Abī Mulaykah narrated to us, from ‘Ā’ishah, who said:
During the illness in which the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, died, he said, “Summon Abū Bakr and his son for me, and let him write, so that no one may aspire to Abū Bakr’s position or wish for it.” Then he said, “Allah and the Muslims would not allow that.” Mu’ammal once said, “the believers” instead.
‘Ā’ishah said, “Allah and the Muslims”—and on another occasion he said, “the believers”—“would accept none but my father, and so it was my father.” May Allah be pleased with him.
