194 - ‘Abdullāh narrated to us, saying: Ibrāhīm ibn al-Hajjāj al-Nājī narrated to me, saying: Hammād ibn Salamah narrated to us, from ‘Alī ibn Zayd, from ‘Abd al-Rahmān ibn Abī Bakrah, from Abū Bakrah, who related that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was pleased by good dreams and would ask about them. One day he said:
“Which of you has had a dream?”
A man replied: “I have, O Messenger of Allah. I saw what appeared to be a balance lowered from heaven. You and Abū Bakr were weighed against one another, and you outweighed Abū Bakr. Then Abū Bakr and ‘Umar were weighed, and Abū Bakr outweighed ‘Umar. Then ‘Umar and ‘Uthmān were weighed, and ‘Umar outweighed ‘Uthmān. Then the balance was raised.”
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was distressed by the dream and said:
“Prophethood, then Allah grants kingship to whomever He wills.”
