185 - ‘Abdullāh narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me: ‘Abd al-Razzāq narrated to us, saying: Ma‘mar informed us, from Mūsā ibn Ibrāhīm, a man of the family of Rabī‘ah, to whom it had been reported that when Abū Bakr was appointed caliph, he sat in his house, sorrowful. ‘Umar came in, and Abū Bakr turned to him reproachfully, saying, “You have burdened me with this!” He complained to him about having to judge between people.
‘Umar said to him, “Do you not know that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, ‘When a ruler strives to reach a judgment and arrives at the truth, he has two rewards; when he strives but misses the truth, he has one reward’?”
He said: It seemed that ‘Umar’s report had eased Abū Bakr’s burden.
