183 - ‘Abdullāh narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me: Sufyān ibn ‘Uyaynah narrated to us, from Abū al-Zinād, from al-A‘raj, from Abū Salamah, from Abū Hurayrah, who said:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, led us in prayer, then turned to face us and said, “While a man was driving a cow, he mounted it and struck it. It said, ‘We were not created for this; we were created only for ploughing.’” The people said, “Glory be to Allah! A cow that speaks!”
He said, “I believe this, as do Abū Bakr and ‘Umar”—though neither of them was there.
“And while a man was tending his sheep, a wolf attacked them and seized one. The man pursued the wolf, caught up with it and rescued the sheep from it. The wolf said, ‘You there! You have rescued it from me, but who will look after it on the day of the wild beast, when it has no shepherd but me?’” The people said, “Glory be to Allah! A wolf that speaks!”
He said, “I believe that, as do Abū Bakr and ‘Umar”—though neither of them was there.
