154 - ‘Abd Allāh narrated to us: My father narrated to me: Safwān ibn ‘Īsā narrated to us, saying: Unays ibn Abī Yahyā informed us. H (change of chain). My father also narrated to me: Makkī narrated to us: Unays ibn Abī Yahyā narrated to us, from his father, from Abū Sa‘īd al-Khudrī, who said:

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came out to us during the illness from which he died, with his head bandaged. I followed him until he ascended the pulpit and said:

“I am standing at the Cistern at this very moment.”

Then he said:

“A servant was offered this world and its adornments, but he chose the Hereafter.”

None of those present understood what he meant except Abū Bakr, who said: “May my father and mother be sacrificed for you! Rather, we would ransom you with our wealth, our lives, and our children.”

Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, descended from the pulpit, and he was never seen upon it again, right up to this moment.
