Fadail al-Sahabah li-Ahmad ibn HanbalAhmad Ibn Hanbal

142 - ‘Abd Allāh narrated to us: My father narrated to us: Wakī‘ narrated to us: Mis‘ar and Sufyān narrated to us, from ‘Uthmān ibn al-Mughīrah, from ‘Alī ibn Rabī‘ah al-Wālibī, from Asmā’ ibn al-Hakam al-Fazārī, from ‘Alī ibn Abī Tālib, who said:

Whenever I heard a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Allah would benefit me through it as He willed. When someone else related it to me, I would ask him to swear an oath; if he swore to me, I would believe him. Abū Bakr related to me—and Abū Bakr spoke the truth—that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say:

“Any man who commits a sin, then performs ablution thoroughly, prays two units of prayer, and seeks forgiveness from Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, will be forgiven.”
