133 - Ahmad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbār narrated to us: Muhammad ibn ‘Abbād Sandūlā narrated to us: Tulayd ibn Sulaymān narrated to us, from Abū al-Jahhāf Dāwūd ibn Abī ‘Awf, who said:
When Abū Bakr received the pledge of allegiance, he closed his door for three days, saying, “O people, release me from your pledge of allegiance.” Each time, ‘Alī said to him, “We will neither release you nor ask you to release us. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) put you forward, so who could put you back?”
