Al-Haytham ibn Khalaf al-Dūrī narrated to us in the year 299 AH: ‘Abdullāh ibn Mutī‘ narrated to us: Hushaym narrated to us, from Husayn, who said: I heard al-Musayyab ibn ‘Abd Khayr al-Hamdānī narrate from his father, who said: I heard ‘Alī ibn Abī Tālib say from the pulpit:
“Indeed, the best of this community after the Prophet ﷺ is Abū Bakr, then ‘Umar. We have done things after them concerning which Allah will judge as He wills.”
حَدَّثَنَا الْهَيْثَمُ بْنُ خَلَفٍ الدُّورِيُّ، سَنَةَ تِسْعٍ وَتِسْعِينَ وَمِائَتَيْنِ، قثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُطِيعٍ قثنا هُشَيْمٌ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الْمُسَيَّبَ بْنَ عَبْدِ خَيْرٍ الْهَمْدَانِيَّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: إِنَّ خَيْرَ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ بَعْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، ثُمَّ عُمَرُ، وَإِنَّا قَدْ أَحْدَثْنَا بَعْدَهُمَا أَحْدَاثًا يَقْضِي اللَّهُ فِيهَا مَا أَحَبَّ.
