119 — ‘Abd Allāh narrated to us, saying: Abū Ma‘mar narrated to me, saying: al-Haytham ibn ‘Adī, Abū ‘Abd al-Rahmān, narrated to us, from Mujālid, from al-Sha‘bī, who said: Ibn ‘Abbās said:
“The first to pray was Abū Bakr.” He then recited these verses by Hassān ibn Thābit:
“When you recall your sorrow for a trusted brother,
remember your brother Abū Bakr and all he did:
The best of creation, the most God-fearing and just,
except the Prophet, and the most faithful to his charge;
The second, the follower, whose presence was praiseworthy,
and the first among the people to believe the messengers.”
