13 - ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us, saying: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAwn narrated to me, saying: Abū Ismāʿīl al-Muʾaddib, Ibrāhīm ibn Sulaymān, narrated to us, saying: Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid narrated to us, from al-Shaʿbī, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Awfā. Al-Rabīʿ ibn Thaʿlab, Abū al-Fadl, also narrated to us by dictation, saying: Abū Ismāʿīl al-Muʾaddib, Ibrāhīm ibn Sulaymān ibn Razīn, narrated to us, from Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid, from al-Shaʿbī, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Awfā:
ʿAbd al-Rahmān ibn ʿAwf complained about Khālid ibn al-Walīd, and the Messenger of Allah said:
“O Khālid, why do you hurt a man who fought at Badr? Even if you spent gold equal to Mount Uhud, you would not match his deeds.”
Khālid replied, “O Messenger of Allah, they speak ill of me, so I answer them back.”
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“Do not hurt Khālid, for he is one of Allah’s swords, which Allah has unleashed against the disbelievers.”
