The shaykh and imam, the peerless hadith master Abū al-Fadl Muhammad ibn Nāsir ibn Muhammad ibn ʿAlī ibn ʿUmar al-Salāmī, who acted upon his knowledge, informed us through my reading to him while he listened. He said: I read to the righteous shaykh Abū al-Husayn al-Mubārak ibn ʿAbd al-Jabbār ibn Ahmad ibn al-Qāsim al-Sayrafī in Rajab of the year 500 AH. I said to him: Shaykh Abū Tāhir Muhammad ibn ʿAlī ibn Muhammad ibn Yūsuf, the Quran reciter known as Ibn al-ʿAllāf, informed you through a reading to him while you listened in Dhū al-Qaʿda of the year 436 AH. He said: Abū Bakr Ahmad ibn Jaʿfar ibn Hamdān ibn Mālik al-Qatīʿī informed us through a reading to him on Saturday, the sixteenth of Jumādā al-Ākhira in the year 368 AH. He said: Abū ʿAbd al-Rahmān ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Hanbal ibn Hilāl ibn Asad al-Shaybānī narrated to us, saying: My father—may Allah have mercy on him—narrated to me:
1 - He said: Saʿd ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿd al-Zuhrī narrated to us, saying: ʿUbayda ibn Abī Rā’ita al-Hadhdhā’ al-Tamīmī narrated to us, saying: ʿAbd al-Rahmān ibn Ziyād—or ʿAbd al-Rahmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh—narrated to me, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Mughaffal al-Muzanī, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“Fear Allah! Fear Allah regarding my Companions! Do not make them targets after me. Whoever loves them does so out of love for me, and whoever hates them does so out of hatred for me. Whoever harms them has harmed me, and whoever harms me has offended Allah, Mighty and Majestic. Whoever offends Allah, He will soon seize him.”
