Ahmad informed us; Abu Bakr narrated to us:
52 – Al-Qasim ibn Hashim related to me; he said: Al-Musayyab ibn Wadih narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Walid, who said: Someone said to al-ʿAbbas ibn Mirdas when he was already advanced in age, “Will you not have a drink? It will sharpen your daring and strengthen you.” He replied, “In the morning I am the chief of my people, but by evening I would be their fool! No, by Allah, nothing shall ever enter my body that comes between me and my reason.”
