Dhamm al-MuskirIbn Abi al-Dunya

Ahmad informed us; Abu Bakr narrated to us:

45 – Al-ʿAbbās ibn Hishām ibn Muḥammad related to me, from his father, that Qays ibn ʿĀṣim al-Minqarī had already declared wine forbidden in the pre-Islamic era and recited (in the Wāfir metre):

I saw that wine can render some benefit, yet within it
Are seeming virtues that debase the noble man.
So, by Allah, I shall never drink it while sound in health,
Nor ever be wretched with it when I am ill.
Never will I barter for it the price of my very life,
Nor summon a drinking-partner on its account.
For when its feverish heat begins to circle,
Portents arise that turn the patient, prudent man into a fool.
