28 – Al-Hasan ibn ʿIsa and Ahmad ibn Jamil narrated to us; they said: Ibn al-Mubarak informed us; he said: Husayn ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿUbayd Allah ibn ʿAbbas informed us, from ʿIkrimah, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade al-muqayyar (pitch-treated vessels), ad-dubbaʾ (dried gourds), and al-muzaffat (tar-coated vessels) and declared, “Do not drink except from a container that is secured with a stopper (dhū ikāʾ).”
So the people fashioned drinking-skins out of camel hides and attached necks made of sheepskin to them. When news of this reached him, he said, “Do not drink except from a container whose upper part is of the same material as the rest of it.”
