Aḥmad informed us.
13 – Abū Bakr narrated to us; ʿAlī ibn al-Jaʿd narrated to us, who said: al-Qāsim ibn al-Faḍl al-Ḥuddānī related to me, from Thumāmah ibn Ḥazn, who said: I met ʿĀʾishah and asked her about nabidh. She answered, “The delegation of ʿAbd al-Qays came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him about nabidh, so he forbade them from using dubbāʾ (gourds), ḥantam (green earthenware jars), naqīr (carved palm-trunk vessels), and muqayyar (tarred pots).” She then called for an Abyssinian servant-girl and said, “Ask her, for she used to prepare nabidh for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” The girl said, “I used to steep dates for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a waterskin at night, tie its mouth, and hang it up; when morning came, he would drink from it.”
