Yahya ibn Salih al-Wuḥaḍi reported: ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Muhammad al-Ansari narrated to us, from ʿAtaʾ ibn Abi Rabah, from ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmr, who said, “For me, committing fornication is preferable to becoming intoxicated, and becoming intoxicated is preferable to associating partners with Allah, because when a person is drunk there comes a moment when he no longer knows who his Lord is.”
