Husn al-Zann bi-llahIbn Abi al-Dunya

93 – Al-Ḥasan ibn Yaḥyā ibn Kathīr al-ʿAnbarī narrated to us, from Khuzaima Abū Muḥammad the devotee, who said: ʿUmar ibn Dharr—may Allah have mercy on him—used to say:

“O Allah, have mercy on those who obeyed You in the act of obedience most beloved to You: believing in You and placing their trust in You. And have mercy on those who obeyed You by abandoning the sins most hateful to You: associating partners with You and fabricating lies against You.”

He went on to say: Some of them would remark, “Although every sin by which Allah is disobeyed is great, within the vastness of His mercy it is small.”
