92 – Surayj ibn Yūnus narrated to me; Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayd narrated to us, from Sufyān, from one of his companions, who related that Muslim ibn Yasār said:
“Whoever hopes for something goes after it, and whoever fears something runs from it. I cannot fathom the measure of a man’s hope when a trial befalls him and he does not persevere for the sake of what he hopes for, nor can I fathom the measure of a man’s fear when a temptation confronts him and he does not leave it for the sake of what he fears.”
