88 – Fudayl ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhab narrated to us; Jaʿfar narrated from Shubayl ibn ʿAzrah, from Shahr ibn Ḥawshab, who said:
“When Abraham—peace be upon him—was shown the dominion of the heavens and the earth, he saw a man disobeying Allah, so he invoked against him. He then did the same for a second, a third, and a fourth; each time he supplicated against them until they were destroyed. Then he was called out: ‘O caller who makes these supplications! I created the son of Adam for three purposes: I may bring forth from him offspring who worship Me’—and He recited: ‘He brings forth the living from the dead, and He brings forth the dead from the living’ (Q 10:31)—‘or he may repent at any point before reaching old age, and I will accept his repentance, for I am not subject to the haste of My servants; or he may persist, and then the Fire awaits behind him.’”
