56 – Muhammad ibn ʿAmr ibn Abī Madʿūr narrated to us; Muʿtamir ibn Sulaymān narrated to us; ʿAlī ibn Ṣāliḥ told me, from Mūsā ibn ʿUbayda, from his brother, from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh, that the Prophet of God ﷺ said:
“Forgiveness continues to alight upon the servant so long as the veil is not lifted.”
Someone asked, “O Prophet of God, what is the veil?” He answered, “Associating partners with Him. Every soul that meets Him without having associated anything with Him is met by Allah’s forgiveness—if He wills, He forgives it, and if He wills, He punishes it.”
He then added, “I only know that the Prophet of God recited: ‘Indeed, Allah does not forgive that partners be associated with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whomever He wills’ (An-Nisāʾ 4:48).”
