36 – Al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAmr ibn Muḥammad al-Qurashī narrated to me, from al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī, from Muḥammad ibn Abān, from Ḥumayd, who said:
“I had a sister’s son, just reaching adolescence, who fell ill. His mother sent for me, so I came and found her at his bedside, weeping. He said, ‘Uncle, why is she crying?’ I replied, ‘Because of what she knows about you.’ He said, ‘Is she not simply showing me mercy?’ I answered, ‘Yes.’ He continued, ‘Then Allah is more merciful to me than she is.’
“When he died, I helped lower him into the grave with another man. I went to set a brick in place and, peering into the niche, I saw that it had been opened up before him as far as the eye could see. I asked my companion, ‘Did you see what I saw?’ He said, ‘Yes—may that be a source of felicity for you.’ I felt sure it was because of the words he had spoken.”
