34 – Abu ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Kufi narrated to us; Siyyar narrated to us; Jaʿfar narrated to us; he said: I heard Thabit say: “There was a young man given to reckless excess. His mother would admonish him, saying, ‘My dear son, a Day awaits you, so remember your Day. My dear son, a Day awaits you, so remember your Day.’

When death finally came upon him, she said, ‘My son, I have long been warning you of this moment and telling you: a Day awaits you, so remember your Day.’

He replied, ‘Mother, I have a Lord abounding in kindness, and I hope He will not withhold from me a share of His kindness by showing me mercy.’”

Thabit added, “So Allah had mercy on him because of the good opinion he entertained of his Lord in that very situation.”
