Husn al-Zann bi-llahIbn Abi al-Dunya

15 – Abu Hafs al-Sayrafi narrated to me; it reached me that whenever ʿUmar ibn Dharr—may Allah have mercy on him—recited, “And they swear by Allah their most solemn oaths: Allah will not resurrect those who die” (al-Nahl 16:38), he would respond: “And we too swear by Allah with all the force of our oaths that Allah will most certainly resurrect those who die. Do you think He will lodge the two opposing oaths in the same abode?” Abu Bakr added: Abu Hafs then wept bitterly.
