137 – Muhammad ibn al-Husayn related to me; Yūnus ibn Yaḥyā al-Umawī related to us; Muhammad ibn Muṭarrif related to me. He said: “We visited Ibn Ḥāzim al-Aʿraj when death had drawn near, and we asked, ‘Abū Ḥāzim, how do you find yourself?’ He replied, ‘I find myself well; I find myself hopeful in Allah, thinking well of Him. By Allah, the one who goes out morning and evening building the assets of the Hereafter for himself—sending them on ahead before death overtakes him so that, when he arrives, they stand ready for him and he for them—is certainly not equal to the one who goes out morning and evening amassing the assets of this world for someone else, only to return to the Hereafter with neither share nor portion in it.’”
