136 – Muhammad ibn al-Husayn related to me; Zayd al-Himyari related to us; Abu Yaʿqūb the reciter related to me. He said: “In my dream I saw a tall, dark-complexioned man, and people were walking behind him. I asked, ‘Who is that?’ They replied, ‘Uways al-Qaranī.’ So I followed him and said, ‘Advise me, may Allah have mercy on you.’ He frowned at me, so I added, ‘I am seeking guidance—guide me, may Allah guide you.’ He then turned toward me and said, ‘Seek your Lord’s mercy through loving Him; beware His wrath when you disobey Him; yet never sever your hope in Him throughout all of that.’ With that, he turned away and left me.”
