135 – Muhammad ibn al-Husayn narrated to me; Hakim ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us; ʿAbayah ibn Kulayb al-Laythi narrated to us; from a man of Kufa who said: We were sitting with ʿAwn ibn ʿAbd Allah in the mosque of Kufa, and I heard him say, “Among the greatest delusions is to keep waiting for every hope to be fully realized while you, O servant, remain entrenched in sin.” He also said, “The striving of those who turn away from Allah has certainly failed.” And I heard him say, “We hope for nothing but His pardon.” At that, he was overcome by tears and rose to leave.
