Husn al-Zann bi-llahIbn Abi al-Dunya

126 – Muhammad ibn Qudamah narrated to me, from Abu Muʿawiyah, from ʿUthman ibn Waqid, from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, who said:

“One night while I was praying I thought to myself, ‘If only I knew which deeds are dearest to Allah and most pleasing to Him, I would devote myself to them with all my strength.’ Drowsiness overcame me, and in my sleep someone said: ‘You are asking for something that cannot be; indeed, Allah loves to forgive.’”
