113 – Al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to me; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṣāliḥ ibn Muslim al-ʿIjlī also narrated to me. He said: al-Shaʿbī stated, “I once heard ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Marwān, standing on this very pulpit, utter words for which I envied him. I heard him say:

‘O Allah, my sins have grown so great that they defy description, yet beside Your pardon they are but small; so forgive me.’”
