106 – al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to me; ʿAbd Allah ibn Ṣāliḥ al-ʿIjli narrated to us, who said:
“A brother of ʿAli ibn al-Ḥusayn—whose companionship he cherished—failed to visit him for a while. When ʿAli asked about the reason for his delay, the man explained that he had been occupied with the death of his son, adding that the boy had been one who had exceeded all bounds against himself. ʿAli ibn al-Ḥusayn replied, ‘Your son still has three things in his favor. First, his testimony that there is no god but Allah. Second, the intercession of the Messenger of Allah. Third, Allah’s mercy, which has encompassed everything.’”
