92 – Abū ʿAlī ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Zabbān al-Ṭāʾī narrated to me, saying: ʿAbd al-Ṣamad ibn ʿAbd al-Wārith narrated to us, from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from his father, that ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb looked in on Abū Bakr—may Allah have mercy on them both—while he was tugging at his tongue. ʿUmar said, “What are you doing, O Successor of the Messenger of Allah?” He answered, “This is what has led me to peril. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: ‘There is no part of the body except that it complains to Allah about the tongue and its sharpness.’”
