88 – Ahmad ibn Ibrahim narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Marwan al-‘Uqayli reported, on the authority of Yunus ibn Abi al-Furat, that ‘Umar ibn ‘Abd al-‘Aziz—may Allah have mercy on him—was once presented with spoils of war that included musk. He immediately pinched his nose. People said, “O Commander of the Believers, do you cover your nose for this?” He replied, “The only benefit to be had from it is its fragrance, and I would dislike to enjoy that scent while the rest of the Muslims do not.”
