Al-Wara'Ibn Abi al-Dunya

79 – ʿUmar ibn Saʿīd al-Dimashqī related to me; he said: Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz narrated to us, from Sulaymān ibn Mūsā, from Nāfiʿ, who said:
“I was travelling with Ibn ʿUmar on a road when he heard the flute of a shepherd. He immediately placed his fingers in his ears and stepped off the path. Then he asked, ‘Nāfiʿ, can you still hear it?’ I replied, ‘Yes.’ He removed his fingers from his ears, moved farther away, and asked again, ‘Nāfiʿ, can you still hear it?’ I said, ‘No.’ He then took his fingers from his ears once more, returned to the road, and said, ‘This is exactly what I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do.’”
