59 – Ishaq ibn Ismaʿil narrated to us; he said: Yaʿla ibn ʿUbayd informed us; he said: Aban ibn Isḥaq transmitted, from al-Ṣabbāḥ ibn Muḥammad, from Murrah, from ʿAbd Allah, who said: One day the Prophet ﷺ said to a group of his Companions, “Show modesty before Allah with the modesty that is truly His due.” They replied, “O Messenger of Allah, we do show modesty.” He answered, “That is not genuine modesty before Allah. Whoever truly shows modesty before Allah must safeguard his head and what it contains, his stomach and what it holds, and remember death and bodily decay. Whoever does that has indeed shown modesty before Allah in the fullest sense.”
