52 – Salamah ibn Shabib narrated to me; he said: Sahl narrated to us; he said: Abu Yazid al-Fayd narrated to us; he said: I asked Musa ibn Aʿyan about God’s words, “Allah accepts only from the God-fearing” (5:27). He replied, “They would abstain from certain lawful things out of fear of falling into the unlawful, and for that reason Allah called them ‘God-fearing.’”
