Suraij ibn Yunus narrated to us, saying: Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, saying: Yazid ibn Ibrahim related to us, from Ibrahim ibn al-ʿAlaʾ, from Muslim ibn Shaddad, from ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr al-Laythi, from Ubayy ibn Kaʿb, who said:

“No servant gives something up—and he only gives it up for Allah—without Allah granting him something better than it from an avenue he could never anticipate. But whoever treats it lightly and takes it from an avenue that is not befitting for him, Allah will bring upon him something even more severe.”
