ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Wāqid narrated to us, saying: Ḍamrah ibn Rabīʿah narrated to us, who said: Thawr ibn Yazīd informed us, saying—“I know it only from Khālid ibn Maʿdān”—who said:
“Whoever lacks forbearance with which to curb his own ignorance, and lacks waraʿ (scrupulous piety) that keeps him back from what Allah has forbidden, and lacks good companionship with those he accompanies, Allah has no need of him.”
